George Hunt

George Hunt was born in Louisiana and spent most of his childhood in Texas and Arkansas. He studied art at the University of AR, and later in New York and the University of Memphis. For over 35 yrs., Hunt taught art at a high school in Memphis. After retiring from teaching, Hunt moved his studio to the world famous Beale St., where he continues to create art.

George Hunt's exuberant style has captured the imagination and attention of art collectors, critics and the media alike. Today, Hunt is at the forefront of the art scene with major commissions such as Northwest Airlines, Bravo Television Network, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Chicago Blues Festival, ServiceMaster Inc., as well as many exhibitions and activities throughout the country. Hunt currently has a traveling blues show in Seattle, WA consisting of over 20 paintings for the "Year of the Blues". In January of 2004, George Hunt was honored with an award for "Keeping the Blues Alive" by the Blues Foundation at the Gibson Lounge in Memphis.

Hunt is represented in many museum collections and is involved in international art expos. He has shown at the Brooks Museum, National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, and the Kansas City Music Museum. Hunt’s art has been shown for 8 years in NY’s International Art Expo, in other major cities such as Boston, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami and Chicago.

While his paintings and Limited Editions have been exhibited throughout America, Hunt has been the Memphis in May commissioned artist for the last 13 years. He is the only artist who was commissioned to paint the music poster and the international poster for MIM.

In Casinos and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Hunt has work in a permanent collection. He is the only visual artist to do a one man show at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

George Hunt is an artist, who impresses you not only with his talent, but with his heart. He continues to be involved in cultural, business, and charitable events, even though he juggles a full schedule.
